What is Abrasions?

When the outer epidermis of the skin is scrapped by trauma or any other physical causes it is known as abrasions. There may or may not be bleeding depending upon the depth of the injury. Usually abrasions do not give scars but deep abrasions can precipitate the formation of scars. Abrasion injury that removes all the three layers of skin is more commonly known as Avulsion injury. Usually, abrasion is caused when the outer layer of the skin, the epidermis comes into contact with a rough surface which leads to scrapping of the outer epidermis.
