What is Acne?

Also called: Pimples, Zits, Breakouts

Our skin is composed of three layers –dermis, epidermis and hypodermis. Besides the three layers there are many secretary structures like hair follicle, sebaceous glands, and sweat glands. When bacteria invade these secretary structures, acne or pimples occurs. Pimples or Acne is the bane of adolescence and can cause many psychological disorders like depression or loss of self respect. Hormonal changes during the teenage years and pregnancy probably play a part in acne, breakouts or zits formation. There are many myths about causes of acne. Chocolate and junk foods are often blamed. There is no evidence that foods have any effect on Pimples in most people. Stress may not cause acne, but it can make it worse. The best treatment for pimples is symptomatic. Clean your skin gently, do not touch your skin and avoid long exposure to sun.
