Albumin is a type of protein. Usually there is no protein in the urine but if there is a presence of albumin in the urine it is known as Albuminuria. It is a type of proteinuria.

Measurement:
The quantity of protein being excreted in the urine is measured by collecting the urine for 24 hours. The albumin is measured in a sample of the pooled urine and the albumin in the pooled urine is estimated.
Causes:
Albuminuria could be indicative of serious renal damage. The kidneys normally filter out large molecules. If the Glomerular units are damaged then albumin starts being excreted from the body in the urine. This condition can be seen in Type 1 diabetes patients.
