Description: Anthocleista is recognized for its bactericidal activity. Whole root preparations of Anthocleista djalonensis is, used traditionally treatment of sexually transmitted diseases (STD). It is a flowering tree in the Gentian family (Gentianaceae), tribe Potalieae, sub tribe Potaliinae. There are about 50 species in the genus Anthocleista, native mainly to tropical Africa, Madagascar and the Mascarene Islands. It is tall straight stem evergreen tree with very large leaves, clustered near the ends of branches, obovate-oblong, stiff and leathery. Flowers in terminal branched clusters, trumpet-shaped with reflexed petals, creamy-white with a greenish tube. The fruits are fleshy, near-spherical and smooth.
