Arthritis is an auto-immune disease and is thought to occur when the immune system of the body goes hay-wire and leads to the wasting of the synovial membrane and making joint movements extremely gritty and difficult. The disease is seen in people above the age of the 45. Wasting of the joints leads to the formation of bone spurs, thus completely restricting the movement of that joint. Some form of arthritis can affect other organs also. Incidences of Juvenile arthritis are also increasing. Onset of menopause, osteoporosis, overweight and use of corticosteroids also increases the chance of getting arthritis. Treatment includes use of anti-inflammatory drugs to reduce swelling and other inflammatory manifestation.
