Name: B javanica

Other Names: Java Brucea, Fructus Bruceae

Description: An evergreen shrub, Brucea javanica or B.javanica is widely distributed from Sri Lanka through S.E.Asia to S.China and Taiwan, throughout Malaysia to N.Australia. In India, Brucea javanica is distributed in N.Bengal, Assam, Kerala and in the Andaman Islands. The plant belongs to the Simaroubaceae family and attains the height of ca 1.8 m, and bears purplish-black,fleshy bitter fruits having a solitary seed. The dry fruit extracts has been found to be effective in treating malaria.

Brucea javanica is also termed as Fructus Bruceae and Java Brucea.
