Description: Bacillary dysentery is a water-borne disease and is caused by the Shigella bacteria. The bacteria enter the body through contaminated food or water. The bacteria produce toxins which attack the delicate lining of the intestine. It can cause ulcers in the intestine and also give rise to bloody diarrhea fever and colic pain. Contamination of water sources usually due to bad sanitary habits are the usual cause of waterborne–Shigellosis.
