Description: Kava is native to Melanesia but was introduced throughout the islands of Polynesia by ancient voyagers. It thrives in wet, somewhat shady places, but in Samoa is found only in inland plantations. It has long been used in Samoa and the rest of Polynesia to prepare a mild narcotic beverage known by the same name. In sufficient quantities it has a mildly paralyzing effect aiding in the relief of muscular aches and back pain. Kava is also known in the western world as a analgesic and antidiuretic.

Directions For Use: The grated, crushed, or chewed roots, which contain several active lactones, are mixed with water to produce a drink that looks like weak coffee and has a peppery taste numbing the mouth and tongue.

Not To Use With: As Kava is a narcotic it should not be taken by children, with care taken for the elderly. Not recommended during pregnancy or nursing and should be taken with care in all cases

Side Effects: Kava can give the taker a feeling of intoxication and can also cause stomach upset and vomiting i some patients if too much is taken

Expected Results: Pain is alleviated almost immediately after drinking Kava but this is a temporary measure such as taking a painkiller or sedative
