What is Blackheads?

A Blackhead which is medically termed as an open comedo, is a yellowish or blackish plug or a bump on the skin. A blackhead is defined correctly as a type of acne vulgaris. An accumulation of excess oils in the sebaceous glands is the primary cause of blackheads. The black heads consists of keratin and sebum which is secreted by the sebaceous glands. There can be secondary pathogenic infections in the affected site also. Treatment of blackheads takes time. Most treatments take several weeks to months before a noticeable change is seen.
