Name: Calamus

Other Names: Common Sweet Flag, Acorus calamus, Sweet Flag

Description: Calamus or Common Sweet Flag or Acorus calamus is a plant from the Acoraceae family. Common Sweet Flag or Calamus is a tall perennial wetland monocot with scented leaves and rhizomes which have been used medicinally, for its odor, and as a psychotropic drug. Common Sweet Flag contains an alkaloid named acorin which is very beneficial in removing intestinal worms and also lowering high blood cholesterol.
