Scarring of the liver is known as Liver Cirrhosis. Scar tissue could be formed due to injury or diseases like Hepatitis or alcoholism. The scar tissues is unable to do the normal functions of the liver cells. These functions include "making proteins, helping to fight infections, clean the blood, and help digest food especially fats, storing food and excretion".
Cirrhosis of Liver is also known as Alcoholic Liver Disease, Liver Cirrhosis, Liver Cirrhosis Disease and Hepatic fibrosis.
Symptoms of cirrhosis include "easy bruising or bleeding, or nosebleeds, swelling of the abdomen or legs, extra sensitivity to medicines, high blood pressure in the vein entering the liver, enlarged veins in the esophagus and stomach and kidney failure". About 5 percent of people with cirrhosis get liver cancer. The scars are permanent but treatment can reduce the symptoms from getting worse. A liver transplant can be considered if there is excessive scarring.
