Solanaceae family and the botanical name is Duboisia myoporoides. This deciduous shrub is native to wet regions of the southeast United States. Corkwood forms a broad and spread out canopy which is excellent for shade. Corkwood is an excellent choice as a hardy tree for suburban gardens, parks and streetscapes, tolerating unfavorable sites such as concrete car parks. The wood of this shrub is soft and lightweight. Masses of delicate pink flowers appear along the branches in summer, attracting many species of birds and butterflies. The eudia is the host tree for the ulysses butterfly and may flower when only a year old. It has been traditionally used as a Sedative, hypnotic and mydriatic. Research is done on the efficacy of these claims.
