What is Dengue?

Also called: Dengue Hemorrhagic Fever, Dengue Shock Syndrome, Break bone fever

Dengue is a life threatening infection caused by a virus and is spread by the tiger mosquito. Outbreaks are seen in the rainy season. Symptoms of Dengue include "High fever, headaches, joint & muscle pain, nausea, vomiting and rash". Recovery is usually seen in two to three weeks. In some dengue cases the disease changes into Dengue hemorrhagic fever. It is characterized by bleeding from the nose, gums or the skin. Massive bleeding can lead shock syndrome. Taking a lot of fluid and non-aspirin antipyretic analgesics can help to control the symptoms. It is also known as Break-bone fever and Dengue Shock Syndrome.
