You have some misinformation on your description that you need to correct. It has nothing to do with the possible usefulness of tumeric for treating depression. Sertaline is a common anti-depressant, but ativan, xanax etc. are anti-anxiety medications. A regular doctor may prescribe them with an anti-depressant, but they are not known as anti-depressants. Examples of other anti-depressants are: prozac, zoloft (sertaline),wellbutrin. The success of your site will depend on accurate information. The mistake that I noticed is one that could easily be remedied by a little editing and research.

Anti depressants and Anxiolytic drugs are two different groups of drugs .But both of them are used together in most of the cases of depression. Depression can be caused by many reasons and one of the major reasons could be insomnia and body pain. Anxiolytic drugs exhibits sedative effects and also acts as a muscle relaxant. Turmeric exhibits both anti-depressant, Anxiolytic and muscle relaxant properties. Hence wherever these drugs are prescribed together or separately for other specific condition than depression turmeric can be prescribed. Depression can also be caused due to other reasons like constipation or impotence. Here also turmeric can be of use as a anti-depressant along with other remedies for the treatment of the cause of depression.

I am taking 800 mg of turmeric or curcumin (with piperine, a black pepper constituent shown to increase curcumin's poor absorbtion rate) twice a day and it has profoundly reduced my depression.

I have suffered from dysthymia for 45 years and have taken all the SSRIs, most of which have worked for a time. I am well aware of the difference between depression and no depression. A placebo effect in my case is most unlikely.

When I ran out of pharmaceutical options, I tried the turmeric alone, with inadequate results, then w/piperine with excellent results. Piperine has been shown to increase the bioavailability of curcumin by 150% to 2000%.

In addition to the antidepressive effects, lab and animal research has found tumeric to be an excellent anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and anti-cancer agent and to reduce beta-amyloid and plaque burden in lab studies. Beta-amyloid is a component of the amyloid plaques that accumulate in the brains of people with Alzheimer’s disease.

I have suffered no ill effects of the dose I am taking, although it might be a good idea to start with say 50 mg and work your way up. I would be nice to get some definitive dosage suggestions, but I have reviewed as many empirical studies as I have been able to get my hands on and I think I'm on a good dose for me and that there is no danger involved.

In fact with each passing day new benefits of Turmeric are being discovered. Turmeric has potent immunity enhancing properties. In fact Russian researchers have established the efficacy of Turmeric in preventing Swine flu , the latest scourge of the world. I am an ardent follower of natural medication and here is one more reason for the vindication of my beliefs.
