Added by jod. Last Edited by Annette

Name: Eucalyptus

Other Names: Blue Gum Tree, Stringy Bark Tree, Australian fever tree

Description: Eucalyptus is also called Blue Gum Tree or Stringy Bark Tree. A Eucalyptus may be mature as a low shrub or as a very large tree. There are three main habit and four size categories that species can be divided into. The leaves are leathery in texture, hang obliquely or vertically, and are studded with glands containing a fragrant volatile oil. The flowers in bud are covered with a cup-like membrane, which is thrown off as a lid when the flower expands. The fruit is surrounded by a woody, cupshaped receptacle and contains numerous minute seeds. It’s medically used as Stimulant, antiseptic, aromatic.

There are more than seven hundred species of Eucalyptus, mostly native to Australia, with a very small number found in adjacent parts of New Guinea and Indonesia and one as far north as the Philippine islands.

Eucalyptus is a good ointment for the skin, containing antiseptic and healing properties. It produces very satisfactory results in scurf, chapped hands, chafes, dandruff, tender feet, enlargements of the glands, spots on the chest, arms, back and legs, pains in the joints and muscles.
