Conditions Treated: Infectious Diseases

Specific Conditions Treated: Filaria

Ingredients Used: Mugwort

Description: Filaria or Elephantiasis is a parasitic and infectious disease which is transmitted by mosquitoes and caused by a nematode named Wuchereria bancrofti. It is mostly seen in South Asia and is endemic in central India. Filaria is characterized by the thickening of the skin and tissues. The lower extremities of the leg become swollen and look like an elephant foot, hence the name Elephantiasis. The swelling is caused when the parasite lodges in the lymphatic system blocking the out pouring of the lymph. Elephantiasis affects mainly the lower extremities; whereas ears, mucus membranes, and amputation stumps are rarely affected; however, it depends on the species of filaria. W. bancrofti can affect the legs, arms, vulva, breasts; while Brugia timori rarely affects the genitals. The leaves of Artemisia douglasiana (Mugwort) are as effective as common antibacterial like penicillin, amoxicillin, ciprofloxacin, ofloxacin, Genticyn or Fluoroquinolones used for treating Filaria. Mugwort works in a similar way as these antibiotic drugs do. Also there are no side effects associated with it. Mugwort is also known as Common wormwood, Douglas's Sagewort, Dream Plant, Artemisia douglasiana and Felon Herb.

Directions For Use: 1 tsp of dried leaf powder of Mugwort is boiled in a cup of water for about 10 min. Then strain and cool it. Drink this tea thrice daily for a week. The antibacterial and antifungal property of Mugwort leaves will treat Filaria.

Not To Use With: As such no specific precaution needs to be followed while using Mugwort leaves extract to treat Filaria.

Side Effects: No side effects are seen since Mugwort leaves extract is safe and well tolerated in the treatment of Filaria.

Expected Results: The symptoms of Filaria have shown to be resolved in a week of the treatment with Mugwort leaves extract.

Expected Results Within: 1 week
