What is Glomerulonephritis?

Also called: Nephritis, Nephrotic Syndrome, Kidney Diseases, Renal disease

The kidneys are the master filters of our body. They are present on either side of the vertebral column in the middle of the back. The liver converts the harmful ammonia formed during protein metabolism into urea which is excreted by the kidneys. The nephron (kidneys have millions of it) is the excretory unit of the kidneys. Any damage to the nephron results in Glomerulonephritis, Nephrotic Syndrome, or Kidney Diseases. The progression of Glomerulonephritis is very slow and the symptoms are not seen until very late. Many things can cause kidney disease. You are at risk if you have- "Diabetes, High blood pressure, a close family member with kidney disease etc". Your doctor can run tests to find out if you have kidney disease. If your kidneys fail completely, a kidney transplant or dialysis can replace the work your kidneys normally do.
