Hepatitis B or HBV is a viral disease which affects the humans and cause inflammation of the hepatic tissues. Hepatitis B is caused by a DNA virus and has caused the breakout of epidemics in parts of Asia and Africa. One third of the world populations are infected by the virus including 350 million chronic carriers. Hepatitis B is characterized by liver inflammation, vomiting and jaundice. Chronic hepatitis B may eventually cause liver cirrhosis and liver cancer - a fatal disease with very poor response to current chemotherapy. The infection is preventable by vaccination.
