What is High Blood Pressure?

Also called: Hypertension, HTN, HBP

High Blood Pressure or Hypertension or HBP or HTN, in short is also known as a silent killer. It is a chronic disease and needs constant monitoring and titration of medicines to effect constant control of bypath heart blood pumping through a maze of blood vessels. In normal persons the BP is maintained at 120/80, but with advancing age the lumen of the blood vessels narrow down causing an increase in blood pressure. This strains the heart and leads to a number of serious repercussions on other organs like kidneys, eyes, and the heart. High blood pressure usually has no symptoms, but it can cause serious problems such as stroke, heart failure, heart attack and kidney failure. You can control high blood pressure through healthy lifestyle habits and taking medicines, if needed.
