Name: Kochia

Other Names: summer cypress, fireweed

Description: Kochia is a genus of dicotyledonous, perennial and annual shrubs in the subfamily Chenopodioideae of family Amaranthaceae. Kochia is indigenous to Australia, North America, Europe and Asia, and some species have become agricultural weeds due to introduction in non-native lands. Kochia fruit has been studied for its medicinal applications and is used in traditional Chinese medicines for treating urinary disorders.

Kochia (Kochia scoparia), also known as fireweed, summer cypress and burning bush, is a weed on the increase in parts of Manitoba, particularly in the southwest region of the province.
