Name: Mitragyna ciliata

Other Names: M'Boy, Bahia, Baya, Elelom

Description: Mitragyna ciliata is commonly used in traditional medicine for the treatment of inflammation, hypertension, headache, rheumatism, gonorrhoea and broncho-pulmonary diseases.

Heartwood uniform light yellowish- or pinkish brown; sapwood wide, not usually differentiated. Texture fine and even; grain moderately straight to interlocked or spiral; luster low; sometimes with gum veins that appear as dark streaks; freshly cut timber has an unpleasant odor. Silica up to 0.24% is reported.

Mainly used in the door industry, but can be used for mouldings as well because it is very easy to work and to varnish. Sometimes it is used as a substitute for Walnut.
