Osteoarthritis or Degenerative Joint Disease is a chronic disease which affects the joints. The movements of joints are severely restricted. The joints become inflamed and movements become painful and gritty. It is a common disease after the age of 65. The risk factors for acquiring Osteoarthritis or Degenerative Joint Disease include "Obesity, stress, heredity, post menopause, use of steroids etc". Osteoarthritis or Degenerative Joint Disease is caused by the abnormal wearing away of the cartridge between the joints. There is a decrease in synovial fluid which lubricates the joints. As the bone surface move over one another they become chipped and jagged because of the lack of lubrication. There is intense pain on moving these joints. Osteoarthritis or Degenerative Joint Disease is thought to be an Auto –Immune disease.
