Name: Peach

Other Names: Prunus persica (Latin), Durazno, melocotón (Spanish)

Description: Peach (Prunus persica) belongs to the family Rosaceae. It is native to China but its juicy fruit is eaten worldwide.

The tree grows up to 10 m tall. Lanceolate leaves simple, alternate. Pink flowers. The fruit has a single large seed (called the stone or pit of the peach) and the flesh is usually yellow. The fruit has a velvety skin in most varieties.

Peach has many commercial uses (foods, lotions, etc.) and are very appreciated by people concerned with good health since it provides minerals like Calcium, Potassium and Phosphorus and vitamins A, B, C. The fruit, leaves and seed have been used as antiasthmatic, astringent, antihelmintic, diuretic, emollient, expectorant, laxative, sedative, etc., therefore it's very useful in conditions like gastritis, bronchitis, coughs, morning sickness, etc.
