Ingredients Used: Alum, Ba Dou

Description: (Bai Fan San)
Pharyngitis is inflammation of the back of the throat. This results in a sore throat, which is discomfort, pain, or scratchiness in the throat. Swallowing can be mildly painful as well. Sore throats, which are often caused by an infection, are very common, especially in children.

This formula is to treat Acute Pharyngitis with swelling.

Directions For Use: Boil 9g Alum into fluid with low heat,add 3 pieces of Ba Dou(Croton Seed),remove Croton Seed when it dries,take out alum and grind it to fine powder,blow a little into the throat each time.

Expected Results: Swelling is alleviated.

What liquid? Blow what into the throat? Fluid, powder? This is a little vague to me. Please elaborate. Thank you.

Hi Joe,
I think you are correct. The treatment uploaded by the user is a little vague. What you need is to dissolve the alum in a little water and boil some crotton seeds in this solution. Filter the solution and gargle with this solution for 30 seconds every 3 hrs and spit it out. Alum is a very good astringent and will shrink the inflammed tonsills tissues. Crotton seeds is a very good antiseptic and anti-tussive. I hope I have cleared your doubts. If you have any queries please revert back and I will be most happy to answer.

Thank you for the clarification, Annette. How much water do you recommend for the 9g of alum? What do you think she meant by grind into powder? Is the croton seed used again? I've been having concerns with my voice. I'm wanting to try everything I can before considering going to see a specialist or even surgery. Sorry for all the questions. Take care.

Hi Joe,
I think 100 ml of water is sufficient for 9 gms of Alum.The crotton is not be used again since all its valuable ingredients has been extracted. The user must have meant to pulverize the Alum into a fine powder and blow it into the throat.
