Name: Pinyin

Other Names: Poria cocos sclerotium, Wolfiporia extensa, Daedalea extensa, Fúlíng

Description: Poria cocos sclerotium widely used and highly respected in Asia as a medicinal mushroom. It is a hydro-organic extract of fungi. In the wild, Poria cocos sclerotium grows a great deal like the European truffle, only difference is it grows around the roots of certain pine trees instead of oaks. In traditional Chinese medicine, it is claimed to pacify the heart, diffuse moisture and stagnation, reinforce vital energy, and diminish agitation. Furthermore it treats abdominal distension, edema, urination problems, diabetes and diarrhea. It also said to enhance, protect, and restore liver function, modulate the immune system, balance blood sugar, and boost fat metabolism, have a whitening effect of skin, and reduce the appearance of pores and blackheads. Until recently a Poria coco was almost unknown in Western medicine, and there have been no human clinical trials conducted to demonstrate any efficacy. As with other mushrooms the active compounds of Poria cocos are extremely easy to digest and assimilate and are therefore it is so highly valued.
