What is Pneumonia?

Pneumonia is a serious disease of lungs. Pneumonia refers to the inflamed or infected lung tissues. This disease if left untreated or improperly treated, can even take away the life of the affected person. Pneumonia can result from a variety of causes, such as infection due to bacteria, viruses, fungi, or parasites. Also physical injury to the lungs can result into Pneumonia is some of the cases. The characterized symptoms of Pneumonia are "Cough, chest pain, fever, and trouble in breathing". Many people die due to Pneumonia each year. The death rate is commonly seen in women and people over the age of 65. 50% of all Pneumonia cases are caused by bacteria.
