Also called: Exanthem Subitum, Roseola Infantum, Rose Rash of Infants, Sixth Disease, Baby Measles
Roseola or Baby Measles is a mild infection that affects children between two to five years. It occasionally affects adults. Roseola Infantum is extremely common in children as the name suggests. Most children have been infected with Roseola by the time they enter school. Roseola or Exanthem Subitum is caused by two virus strains. The symptoms of Roseola include several days of fever, followed by a rash and hence the name Rose rash in infants. The symptoms may be mild in some children but care must taken if the fever goes beyond 104 degree Fahrenheit. Roseola takes about a week to be cured. Roseola typically starts with a high fever often greater than 103. Other symptoms of Roseola include "sore throat, runny nose, cough along with fever". A rash typically appears after the fever has subsided. Fatigue, irritability, mild diarrhea are also seen in some children who have Roseola or the sixth disease.
