Description: Skin Cancer is a malignant growth on the skin which can have many causes. Skin cancer generally develops in the epidermis (the outermost layer of skin), so a tumor is usually clearly visible. This makes most skin cancers detectable in the early stages. Left untreated, skin cancers can be very dangerous, but with early detection and intervention most are curable. Skin cancer that forms in melanocytes (skin cells that make pigment) is called melanoma. Skin cancer that forms in basal cells (small, round cells in the base of the outer layer of skin) is called basal cell carcinoma. Skin cancer that forms in squamous cells (flat cells that form the surface of the skin) is called squamous cell carcinoma. Skin cancer that forms in neuroendocrine cells (cells that release hormones in response to signals from the nervous system) is called neuroendocrine carcinoma of the skin. Most skin cancers form in older people on parts of the body exposed to the sun or in people who have weakened immune systems. Free radicals have been indicted as the primary cause of various malignancies. The content of flavonoids in Saposhnikovia divaricata root extracts was significant. The antioxidant activity of Saposhnikovia divaricata root extracts was almost two times higher than other commonly used antioxidants like Selenium and vitamin E. Ingredients present in Saposhnikovia divaricata root extracts showed long lasting radical scavenging activity and the EPR spectra were recorded in time to follow the reaction kinetics. Saposhnikovia polysaccharides had some functions of scavenging free radicals and inhibiting lipid peroxidation, and scavenging effects on DPPH and OH were especially significant. A-SPS had better effect among different Saposhnikovia polysaccharides, and the scavenging rate of DPPH* and OH* could approach to 70% when the experimental concentration was 8 mg/ml Saposhnikovia divaricata root extracts can be used with confidence to treat Skin cancer along with other conventional treatments with chemotherapeutic agents.
