Sore Throat Home Remedy Using Oregano oil

Yes, some of the worst symptoms (the inflammation) felt like they started to recede immediately...however...I didn't read the instruction properly and tentatively put a single drop of therapeutic grade oregano *essential* oil on my tongue and it burned for ten minutes or so after I spat it out. Ouch!

I've had strep throat about 7 times in my life and know when i get a sore throat and my whole body aches it's probably strep.

I live in canada and thought, i'll just stop at a clinic and get some penicillin..

I tried three clinics and they all had those " we have all the patients we can see today already come tomorrow" signs up. (even though the clinics were going to be open for 6 or 7 more hours...)

so I went to the health store and bought some 80% carvacrol oregano oil.

I've used oregano oil many times and know it's hot, so i put a few drops under my tongue and drank a glass of water when i couldn't stand the burn anymore. Within 2 hours, my throat swelling went down, and my body aches stopped. It's now 24 hours later, and i've been taking a few drops under my tongue every few hours and my throat feels NORMAL.

I feel stupid that i even entertained the idea of going to a clinic...
and am glad the state of health care in this country is so terrible it saved me from the bad effects of penicillin..

It's not health care it's sick care...

what is the difference between oil of oregano and oregano oil? i went to the health food store looking for what my friend had called oregano oil to help with sore throat and such, but was introduced to two different things, which one should I buy?

Hello Tonya,

Both mean the same ,there is no difference between Oregano Oil and Oil of Oregano. Though the composition of the oil can vary from brand to brand.

I use two drops of oil of oregano under my tongue two to three times a day, right at the onset of a sore throat. Symptoms always clear up within one to two days. In addition to preventing the sore throat from getting worse and making it go away, it also provides me with immediate relief from the sore throat pain. It could be because the taste of the oil of oregano is so strong, but it almost seems to have a numbing action to the sore throat pain for me. I even welcome the taste of it now, because I associate the taste with relief from sore throat and sinus problems!
