Name: Yan Hu Suo

Other Names: Yan ho suo, Corydalis Tuber, Rhizoma Corydalis

Description: Yan ho suo also known as Rhizoma Corydalis or Corydalis Tuber. Its place of origin is China. Yan Hu Suo is pungent and bitter in flavour, warm in nature, acts on the heart, liver and spleen channels. Being pungent for dispersing blood stasis, warm for freeing the passage of blood, Yan ho suo effects both on the blood division of heart and liver and the Qi in spleen and lung. Its function is promoting Qi and blood circulation, and it is especially good at relieving pain. It is usually used to treat various pain due to stasis in the blood division. It helps in promoting blood circulation by removing blood stasis, and promoting circulation of Qi to stop pain.

1.For treatment of blood stasis in heart channel, colicky pain due to obstruction of Qi in the chest, it is usually used in combination with Rhizoma Ligustici Chuanxiong, Radix Salviae Miltiorrhizae, Flos Carthami, and other herbs with effect of removing blood stasis to relieve pain; For treatment of blood stasis, epigastric, stabbing pain it can be used together with Radix salviae Miltiorrhizae, Lignum Dalbergiae Odoriferae, Fructus Amomi, Faeces Trogopterorum, and other drugs having the function of promoting flow of Qi to relieve pain.

2. For treatment of distending pain on the chest and hypochondrium caused by Qi and blood stasis in the liver channel, irregular menstruation, it can be used in combination with Radix Bupleuri, Rhizoma Cyperi, Radix Angelicae Sinensis, Rhizoma Ligustici Chuanxiong, and other herbs; For treatment of accumulation of cold in the liver channel, cold-pain in the lower abdomen, it is used together with Fructus Foeniculi, Radix Linderae, Fructus Euodiae, and other herbs having the effect of warming the liver channel to expel the cold, promoting circulation of Qi to relieve pain.

Besides, Yan ho suo is used to treat headache due to blood stasis, pain caused by traumatic ecchymoses, arthralgia caused by wind-dampness.
