Description: Stellaria Root (yin chai hu)



Radix Stellariae

Properties: Sweet in flavour, slightly cold in nature, it acts on the liver and stomach channels. The properties of sweet, cool and moist can clear away blood-heat, nourish Yin and bring down heat of deficiency type. Because of its mild actions, it is the most common herb used to treat heat due to Yin-deficiency, hectic and tidal fever and infantile malnutrition syndrome.

Effects: Bringing down heat of deficiency type, treating infantile malnutrition with fever.



Indications:

1. For heat due to Yin-deficiency, night sweating, hectic fever, it is used in combination with wolfberry bark, sweet wormwood and turtle shell to clear away heat of deficiency type, known as Qing Gu San (Powder of Clearing Away Heat of Deficiency Type).

2. For infantile malnutrition due to indigestion or parastic infection, leanness and abdominal distention, malnutrition with fever, it is used in combination with quisqualis fruit, picrorhiza fhizome, chicken¡¯s gizzard-skin to enhance digestion, remove stagnancy and kill intestinal parasites.



Dosage and Administration: 3-15g.
